Safety

During the challenge the race crew/safety team will be in situation at specific points on the icecap (known as check points), they will be supported by snowmobiles and will have medical equipment, paramedic support and local knowledge to help with any emergency situations. There will be urgent support in the form of helicopter, but the snowmobiles will be the initial immediate response.

We will be using PJ Hayman Expedition insurance it is comprehensive, tried and tested.

It is possible for evacuations to take place along the route if necessary. For this reason competitors need to fully understand that evacuation is not an ‘on demand’ service and weather conditions can preclude flights for days or even weeks at a time. The best way to protect oneself against problems of this nature is to be fully prepared, both physically and mentally for an adventure of this magnitude. Additionally, an aircraft rescue can be very expensive and the expedition insurance will only cover airlifts that are a medical emergency. If you made the decision that you wanted to be evacuated off the ice and it wasn’t a medical emergency you would have to pay for this yourself.
